Kenneth Vern "Ken" Cockrel, Jr. 〔(Ken and Sheila Cockrel Collection at Wayne State University )〕 (born October 29, 1965) is an American politician from the state of Michigan who became mayor of Detroit on September 19, 2008. He was president of the Detroit City Council from 2005 until September 17, 2008, when he was sworn in as the interim mayor, with his term in office beginning September 19. He is viewed by the city's business community as a moderate consensus-builder.
